Northern Arizona Wow!
The great and glorious Grand Canyon, the San Francisco peaks in full, brilliant fall color, Sedona and its fabulous red rock terrain. All within 1.5 hours drive. What's not to love?
We will stay in lodging in Flagstaff each night and foray out into these areas for long and leisurely hikes by day. One day each in the Grand Canyon, the Peaks, and Sedona will provide a luscious sampler of what these areas are all about. We will be a bit off the beaten path, keeping our hikes more about experiencing the place instead of the people.
October 4, 5, 6, Wednesday morning through Friday evening. Avoid the holiday weekend crowds!

Yes, the aspens in the San Francisco Peaks really get this vibrantly yellow. Having spent many an autumn in New England, I was a bit of a fall colors snob prior to moving here. During my first solo hike into these lemon stands, I burst into tears right on the trail. These trees were so alive, it just took my breath away. I felt as if I were among a gathering of grand, old friends.
These peaks are the highest points in Arizona, topping out at 12,633 feet. We will be in the Inner Basin area at 8000 - 9000 feet, surrounded all around by the higher peaks.

Forget all the junk you hear about vortexes, angels, and crystals. Leave the silly pink jeep tours to the people who have forgotten what silence is. Come experience the real magic that is Sedona. Red rock that stretches forever, the scent of juniper, miles of solitude and unbelievable beauty.
We will be hiking in some less traveled, but no less beautiful, parts of Sedona. We will visit the inspirational Tibetan Stupa if there is interest.
